5 reasons to celebrate you
As the adage tells us: “It’s better to be ourselves as everyone else is taken”. Embracing and celebrating who we are, despite or perhaps because of our personality traits and quirks, is often a process that takes time and continues to evolve as we get older.
Here are 5 reasons to celebrate the truly unique person you are:
1. You’re so many things to so many people
Whether you’re a husband/wife/son/daughter/father/mother/grandpa/grandma/aunt/uncle/fried/cousin, the relationships you now have, have evolved over time to something truly special. You’re the only “nanna (or poppa)” your grandchild knows and that’s pretty special.
2. You’ve learnt to embrace imperfection
While the ageing process can be hard to fathom at times, research has shown that we are more comfortable in our own skins as we get older. It comes from spending a lifetime in our bodies and learning to appreciate the quirks.
3. You know what works for your body and mind… and what doesn’t
With age comes experience and once you reach your 60’s, you’ve probably realized exactly what works for you body and makes you feel happy, healthy and vibrant. You’ve discovered what many (many) people are still striving to find; a way of living that works for you.
4. You’ve paved the way for someone else
Whether it was at work, home or in your community, chances are good you’ve paved the path in some way for those who’ve come after you. You may not have instigated anything that seems especially significant (or maybe you have!) but regardless, you’ve set the example and that’s something worth celebrating!
5. You can share your wisdom
The only pre-requisite for wisdom is life experience. And you’ve got plenty of that! Sharing your wisdom with younger family, friends and your community is a wonderful way to reminiscing about your life to date and the lessons you’ve learnt.
