5 essential wardrobe items for winter
Just when you think that maybe summer will last forever, you’re hit with the full force of mother nature and a sharp chill that never fails to come to the party this time of year.
The good thing is that since our winters aren’t particularly long and ferocious (in comparison to say, England) you can usually get by with a few key pieces, rather than undertaking an expensive wardrobe over haul.
So if you’re finding that you’re still not quite set for the cold, just make sure you have these five basic items.
1. A coat
In warmer areas and with the right type of coat, a quality option can carry you through the seasons. Decide what matters more to you when considering material. For example, do you want your armour to be rain or wind proof? If you said rain proof, go for a trench. It won’t be as warm, but it won’t get ruined if you get caught in the rain. If you go for wind proof, make sure you have a handbag sized umbrella on the ready.
2. Gloves
This is an item many of us think we can do without, until we’re caught with our hands out of our pockets on a particularly brisk morning. You can purchase a pair of gloves for these interim occasions for under $10, and your guaranteed to find a time this season when it’s well worth the money.
3. Comfortable boots
There’s nothing quite as uncomfortable as wet socks. The way to avoid this is by investing in some solid winter shoes with a good sole and a thick heel. For added warmth, choose a pair that come up the ankle a bit, so you don’t get the dreaded gap between your socks and your pant leg.
4. A scarf
Scarves are not only good for wearing around your neck, but can also double up as a shawl or even decoration for your handbag. Choose a larger style so you have more options with it, and a pattern you like so you can spruce up otherwise dull outfits.
5. A thick, long jumper
Do you have a closet full of long sleeve tops that are uncomfortable and unflattering? Skip the skivvy’s all together by simply investing in a thick, quality jumper. You can it over your existing t-shirts, and since your avoiding skin on skin, you’ll be able to wear it a few days in a row.
