5 reasons you should use coconut oil in your beauty regime

Coconut oil is an increasingly popular choice when cooking because it has numerous health benefits, and is perfect for cooking at high temperatures. But beyond the kitchen, there are many ways you can use coconut oil in your beauty routine. Here are five to get you started.

Deep condition and nourish your hair

Heat three tablespoons of coconut oil in the microwave until it forms a warm liquid. Allow it to cool and then comb it through your hair. If possible, pull your hair into a bun and leave it for 30 minutes. For an even deeper nourishing effect, leave the oil in your hair overnight and wash out in the morning.

Use as a body and face moisturiser

Interestingly, coconut oil is better at hydrating your skin than most off-the-shelf lotions because it can penetrate the deep layers of the skin and help strengthen underlying tissue.

Remove eye make-up

Use a small amount of coconut oil on a cotton tip to remove eye make-up – even the trickier waterproof stuff. Earning it bonus points in our books, the coconut oil will help boost your eyelash growth while it’s there.

Avoid razor burn

If you hate shaving because you always end up with irritating razor burn, you can try replacing your shaving cream with coconut oil. Combine a generous amount of coconut oil with shea butter and almond oil for a natural shaving cream that will give you a smooth finish with no razor burn.

Soften your lips

Create your own natural lip scrub by mixing equal parts of coconut oil with granulated sugar or brown sugar with a drop of vanilla extract in a small container. The scrub will be sweet-smelling and will leave your lips smooth and soft.
