Eye-watering cost of Meghan Markle’s new royal wardrobe
The Duchess of Sussex has quickly become an international style icon, with designer items that she wears selling out in seconds.
And now, royal expert Katie Nicholl has revealed just how pricey Meghan’s immaculate wardrobe has been since joining the royal family.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Nicholl said that since her engagement to Prince Harry, Meghan has been seen in approximately $AU1.36 million worth of clothing and accessories.
However, Meghan’s two wedding dresses make up the most of that figure with her Givenchy ceremony gown worth over $599,000 and her Stella McCartney reception frock worth more than $213,700.
While Meghan may have contributed to the cost of her wedding dresses, Nicholl revealed that Prince Charles is responsible for paying for a working royal’s wardrobe.
"It does fall now, that she is married into the royal family, to the Prince of Wales ... to cover the cost of her working royal wardrobe," Nicholl told ET.
"Meghan is now an ambassador for the royal family. Look at the publicity she has brought in, in the run up to the wedding. I'd argue that's worth every penny."
While Meghan has made headlines for her recent outfits, Nicholl believes the Duchess will recycle them, just like her sister-in-law Kate Middleton.
"I'm quite sure we will see Meghan step out in the outfits that she has worn before. When you are buying that sort of couture with those sorts of price tags it would be criminal not to re-wear them."
