Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie together at last
Princess Beatrice and Eugenie have teamed up to make their first charity video since lockdowns began.
The Queen’s granddaughters, who are honorary Patrons of the UK’s Teenage Cancer Trust, spoke to six youngsters who are currently being helped by specialist nurses and support co-ordinators throughout the coronavirus pandemic from Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester.
Beatrice and Eugenie both joined in from their homes – with Beatrice in London with her fiancé Edoardo, and Eugenie in Windsor with husband Jack Brooksbank.
Darcy Shaw from Salford – one of the patients on the chat – was diagnosed with skin cancer in February and showered praise on Eugenie for showing off her scoliosis scar on her wedding day.
"I saw pictures of you in your wedding dress and the scar, and it inspired me that you were so open about it and wanted to have it on show," Shaw told the Princess.
"Woo! I love hearing that, Darcy. I have a big old scar down my back and I'm proud to show it off," Eugenie said.
The York sisters brought a lot of positive energy into the chat, as they made love hearts with their hands at the end.
"We've grown up with Teenage Cancer Trust, we've been part of this family our entire lives, and it was so amazing to speak with these young people and some of the incredible team who are supporting them through this crisis," Eugenie said.
"They have been through so much already, and as we start to come out of lockdown, many young people will remain in very difficult situations, often separated from friends and family, at home or in hospital."
Princess Eugenie knows first-hand how families are being impacted by COVID-19, after her father-in-law, George Brooksbank, was hospitalised with the deadly illness.
In a recent social media post, the royal reflected on the experience and thanked frontline staff.
"I'd just like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Brompton Hospital for what you've done in saving my father-in-law's life," she said in the emotional video.
"George came back to us the other day so happy, and as the 'miracle man' as he called himself.
"From the bottom of my husband's and my heart, I just want to thank you for everything you've done on the front line, for risking your lives and those close to you," Eugenie said.
"Thank you for giving us all hope and thank you for changing the course of this pandemic."
And on the other end, Princess Beatrice was forced to cancel her wedding, which was set to take place on May 29, due to the pandemic.
