Why are women tattooing their lips?
If you’re a lipstick aficionado, chances are good you’ve tried your fair share of long lasting sticks, pots and tints, ever hopeful that you’ll find “the one” that stays in place for a full day, without the need for constant touch ups. While cosmetic formulations have come a long way in recent years, it often seems that the perfect, long-lasting lip still hasn’t quite been achieved. With makeup just not cutting it, some women are turning to the magic of tattooing to achieve a permanently perfect lip.
While the idea of tattooing your lips may seem a little terrifying, the process is very different to the kind of tattoo often seen adorning arms, legs, backs and tummies. A special “light vibration” machine is used to outline and shade in the lips using a number of different colours to help mimic and ‘blend’ into the natural lip colour.
The process is reasonably quick (around 60 to 90 minutes in total) and relatively painless, due to the use of a numbing anaesthetic cream that is applied before the tattooing begins. What is absolutely key is finding a highly qualified and experienced artist who takes the time to explain everything to you and who leaves you feeling comfortable and well informed. With the result lasting up to 10 years, you want to make sure you get it right in the first place!

- Spend time explaining the process to you and answering any questions you might have.
- Discuss the results you’re hoping to achieve in detail.
- Draw the proposed lip line on in the exact shape that the tattoo will be in and show you so that you can approve.
- Discuss colour with you to choose something that meets your expectations.
- Support you throughout and after the procedure and be available to answer any questions or queries.
