5 ways your dog says “I love you”

As a dog owner it’s very common to feel as though your pet is another member of the family. We look after them and buy them special treats that we know that they love. But if you are worried that your love for your dog is a one-sided relationship, rest assured that’s not the case. Your furry friend is showing you every day just how much they love you, but perhaps you just didn’t know it.

1. Playing with you

Our dogs love to play rough and even try to wrestle with us in a fun way. This is a natural act for dogs, and is similar to the way that they play with other dogs. Allowing your dog to play games with you can really strengthen your relationship, so get down on the floor and keep playing.

2. Sleeping next to you

Your dog is showing you that he cares by wanting to sleep next to or near you. In the wild, dogs and wolves sleep together in packs for warmth and safety. When your dog wants to sleep near you, this is a way of them showing you that they consider you their family.

3. Jumping on you

While this can often happen at inopportune times, your dog jumps on you because they like you. They are excited to see you and this is a display of affection.

4. Wagging their tail

In general when a dog wags his tail it is a sign of affection. If your dog wags his tail when you enter a room or return from an outing, it’s a sig that he is happy to have you around.

5. Following you around

Sometimes it can feel as though your dog is in the way when they want to follow you around (even to the bathroom). But this is your dog’s way of showing that they love spending time with you.
