This dog has just been named the World’s Ugliest Dog
Martha, a three-year-old Neapolitan Mastiff, has won the 29th annual World’s Ugliest Dog Contest.
The giant droopy-faced dog from Northern California was a favourite to win form the start, often plopping down on the stage when she was meant to be showing off. (But perhaps that was her plan from the start to win the coveted award!)
The three judges didn’t even need to hear her signature snore to give her first prize, which includes $US1,500 ($A1,975), a trophy and a trip to New York for media appearances
Owner Shirley Zindler revealed Marth was rescued when she was nearly blind from neglect by the Dogwood Animal Rescue Project. After several surgeries, Marth can now see again.
The contestants, most of them adopted rescues, are judged on first impressions, unusual attributes, personality and audience reaction.
