Aldi wine named Wine of the Year
Just two weeks ago, we reported that a $6 bottle of red from Coles had won an international wine award. Now, in yet another win for Aussie vino lovers, a budget bottle of red from Aldi has taken out the title of Wine of the Year at the Melbourne International Wine Competition.
The One Road South Australian Heathcote Shiraz 2015, selling for just $7 at the German supermarket chain, won a rare “double gold” certification and was named Wine of the Year in the Best Value Shiraz category.
The supermarket’s One Road Coonawarra Cabernet Merlot also earned a gold certification.
Aldi has earned itself a reputation for stocking quality wines at budget prices in recent years, with its $8 Cotes de Provence Rose (sadly not available down under – yet!) voted one of the best wines in the world at the International Wine Challenge – often dubbed “the Oscars of the wine industry”.
So, if that’s not a reason to treat yourself tonight, we don’t know what is!
