French toast sticks

Why bother with cutlery when you can enjoy the crunchy, sweet deliciousness of French toast in a fun finger-friendly form? For this recipe, you’ll do best to use an unsliced loaf of slightly stale bread – this way you have control over how thick your slices are, as well as ensuring the bread doesn’t soak up too much mixture, which will make your sticks soggy.

Ingredients:

Method:

  1. Cut each slice of toast into thick sticks.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the milk, eggs and salt.
  3. Melt the butter in a large frying pan over a medium heat.
  4. Quickly roll the bread sticks in the egg mixture (don’t let it soak or it will become soggy). Shake off any excess and put it in the pan. Cook in batches until all the sticks are done.
  5. Serve hot with a small bowl full of maple syrup for dunking.
