Woolworths worker shares top 4 deli secrets
A Woolworths worker opened up about what it's like working at the supermarket's deli section in a TikTok video.
The employee created a video titled "Things people always ask me about working in the deli", which attracted hundreds of thousands of views.
The employee answered four burning questions on many customer's lips, which includes whether or not the deli foods are fresh or frozen as well as whether or not staff receive a discount.
The third question was whether or not you can eat whatever you want and whether or not the employees smell due to hours behind the counter.
She answered that "majority of our stuff comes in frozen, including almost all our seafood and all our schnitzels and that come pre-frozen".
She also confirmed that deli workers receive a 5 per cent discount at Woolworths and aren't allowed to eat deli foods for free.
Answering the last question “Don’t you smell” - which Emma said was “her favourite” - she replied “YES!”
Others responded to the TikTok, saying that they agreed as they had worked at Woolworths.
“I worked at Woolies for five years and when I was in the deli I’d try and guess the exact weight of meat the customer asked for, it was a fun game,” said one.
A fellow Woolies worker wrote: “I used to eat olives and mortadella and sun-dried tomatoes in the back - little did I know they actually watched the cameras. Probably why I got fired!”
One more added: “7 pm seafood deep clean smell hits hard.”
Wrote another: “Nothing comes in frozen, only seafood does. My mum [has] been working in the deli for nearly 20 years.”
A Woolworths spokesperson clarified some of the points in the TikTok to 7NEWS.com.au.
“We’re committed to providing our customers with high quality and affordable food right across Australia,” the spokesperson said.
“In the deli, fewer than five percent of our products come into stores frozen or thawed nationally.
“We know it’s important for our customers to understand where our food comes from, which is why we work hard to ensure there’s clear and transparent labelling on our products.”
