Can you spot the deadly red-bellied black snake?

A snake catcher was called into New South Wales home after a red-bellied black snake bit the family’s pet dog.

Illawarra Snake Catcher, Glen Peacock, was called to a Kiama Downs house in NSW after the dog was bitten in the mouth.

Glen was worried the young children living on the property could have been bitten by the serpent as well.

Glen has been capturing snakes for just over a year and eventually found the red-bellied black snake tucked away in a wall.

Glen believes the snake was hibernating in the crack in the wall when the dog discovered it and sniffed it out.

It is believed the deadly snake was eating goldfish from the family’s pond.

After the dog was bitten by the snake, the family took it to the vet and spent $3000 on anti-venom treatment.

As the weather is getting warmer, Glen said snakes are becoming more active after the months of hibernation through winter.

He said the red-bellied black snake is one of the more common snakes found in areas from the beach to the mountains.

The brave snake catcher said that during this time of the year he has 7-8 snake call-outs a week on top of site inspections.
