DIY hair masks to winter-proof your hair

It’s no secret that cool winter air can leave our faces, skin and hair rough, dry and unruly. Try these sweet and simple DIY recipes to help rescue them from the cold! The best part? You can make each of them with three ingredients or less, and you probably have most of them in your kitchen.

Coconut and honey hair mask – If the winter has left your hair dry and full of static, try this super simple, super moisturising hair mask option:

Method:

  1. Soften the coconut oil in the microwave for around 10 to 15 seconds and mix ingredients.
  2. Apply to damp hair, focusing on the ends.
  3. Put your hair in a bun or use a shower cap to cover and leave in for up to 30 minutes, then shampoo as normal.

Note: If you have fine hair, you might want to skip your usual conditioner. Use once a week for shiny, winter-resistant hair!

Honey and oatmeal face scrub – If your face is feeling dry or irritated this season, try this soothing facemask/scrub:

Method:

  1. Mix these moisturising ingredients together until consistent.
  2. Smooth the mixture onto your face and let sit for five minutes to allow skin to fully receive benefits.
  3. Lightly rub into skin and rinse off. Use at least once a week or whenever your face feels dry.

Brown sugar and coconut body scrub – They might be covered up in layers all winter, but our bodies are not exempt from the skin-drying properties of winter. This two-ingredient body scrub moisturises the body while scrubbing off dead skin particles, revealing soft skin all year round.

Method:

  1. As before, heat your coconut oil to give it more malleability and combine with brown sugar, mixing thoroughly.
  2. Apply directly to the skin and gently scrub. Focus on particularly dry areas like knees and elbows.

Note: Bonus? This can also be used as a tasty lip scrub to smooth dry winter lips!
