Duchess Kate's sweet nickname for Prince Charles

Kate Middleton has been overheard using an affectionate nickname for Prince Charles at a recent event.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall at a garden party being hosted by British PM Boris Johnson at the G7 summit in Cornwall when, according to lip readers, Kate said: "Hello Grandpa! How are you?" This has been reported by Cornwall Live.

Charles, 72, then turned to speak with his daughter-in-law, before the group were greeted by the prime minister and his wife Carrie.

Kate and the Prince of Wales reportedly have a close relationship, with Charles acting as a doting grandfather to Kate and Prince William's three children Prince George, seven, Princess Charlotte, six and Prince Louise, three.

Charles is also "Grandpa" to the children of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - Archie two, and Lilibet, 11 days, although he is yet to meet his youngest granddaughter as the family is now based in the US.

Kate and Charles have only recently become close, ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle resigned from the monarchy in January 2020.

The Duchess of Cambridge is seen as a steadying influence in the family, maintaining close relationships with members of the royal family as well as doing what she can to help bridge the gap between the family and Prince Harry.
