Waleed Aly’s wife shares emotional video explaining why she has to buy herself flowers
On Tuesday, Waleed Aly’s wife Susan Carland received backlash after sharing a photo to Instagram of a bunch of flowers she had purchased for herself.
Hours later, the author and wife of The Project co-host appeared in a video, explaining to critics why she doesn’t think her husband should have to buy her flowers.
“I'm not going to wait for someone to get me what I want,” she shared.
Susan said the majority of criticism on her post was from women who insisted that her husband should be buying her flowers.
The backlash first started when Susan shared a photo of self-bought flowers online with the caption, “Decided I deserved flowers so I bought them myself as a gift”. The following morning, she posted the video to respond to the “kinda surprising” criticism that the post generated.
“The thing is, ladies, if you have the money and it will make you happy, and you want it – get it for yourself,” she explained.
“If my husband or anyone else got me flowers, that would be great, but I'm not going to wait around for someone to get me what I want, especially if it's just a cheap bunch of flowers.
“Coz the thing is, I love flowers, like, I want a new bunch three times a week, but it will be very difficult for anyone to keep up with that.
Susan clarified, “I don't expect my husband to do that, it's great if he wants to, but I'm not (going to) outsource him.
“So what happens is, I sit at home and get miserable because my husband didn't get flowers for me and he doesn't even know that I wanted them.
“Who wins from that?” she asked her social media followers.
“Not me, because I didn't get any flowers, and my husband's in the dog house and he doesn't even know why."
She concluded her rant, “So pro tip, just get it for yourself – AND you get the ones you want as well.”
