Police operation underway at Sydney Opera House

A police operation is currently underway at Sydney Opera House.

Details of the cause and nature of the operation remain scarce, but it is understood that police have cleared people from the area and some ferry services from Circular Quay have been cancelled.

The SMH reports police are searching the area and around Manly Wharf, and the Department of Transport has confirmed the 1.20pm ferry from Manly to Circular Quay has been cancelled.

Sydney Opera House staff, tourists and Sydneysiders who were enjoying their lunch are reportedly standing by behind the police line, waiting for more details.

UPDATE: The NSW Police Force has stated in a media release: “Following information on social media, police conducted an operation in the vicinity of the Opera House and Manly as a precautionary measure. That police operation has now concluded.”
