Fall in love with Baz Luhrmann’s showstopping NYC home
Australian director Baz Luhrman has listed his five-level New York townhouse - and the decadent offering could be yours for just $27 million ($USD 20 million).
The home, renovated by Luhrmann and his production designer wife Catherine Martin, was purchased by the couple in 2017 for $18.2 million ($USD 13.5 million).
Its five levels can be accessed via curved stairs or an elevator, and contain a total of six bedrooms, five bathrooms and two powder rooms.
Built during the 1850s, which was known as the early Gilded Age period, the 28-foot-wide home features luxe features such as a three-bay facade, round-arched doors and windows, a cast-iron balcony with a foliate pattern, panelled cornicing, and stunning views of Stuyvesant Square Park.
The listing also points out that “it is the only Anglo-Italianate house in the district that was not originally part of a row of narrow, uniform houses”.
As well as boasting multiple levels, the home also includes a front and back garden, with the latter featuring a dimming bistro light setup and icy-clad garden walls.
The parlour room, with its 16-foot-high ceilings, walk-in closet and private terrace, is the highlight of the house that even comes with a floating staircase.
Other luxury features include the bar and gym on the fourth floor, and a screening room in the ‘English Basement’ which can be accessed by the elevator, stairs, or its own private entrance.
The home has been praised for its beauty previously in various design magazines and was even one of Elle Decor’s top “liked” Instagram posts last year.
