Vaucluse mansion becomes sixth most-expensive home

A Sydney couple have made the record books after their Vaucluse mansion sold for more than $62 million, making it the sixth most expensive house in Australia.

Prominent corporate lawyer John Landerer and his wife Michelle first listed the home formally three years ago, but it has been sold by an agent who was not advertising it.

Though the exact price will be left to settlement, sources have confirmed the property recently sold for more than the $60 million asking price, as reported by Domain.

The sale also makes the sprawling home the second most expensive non-waterfront home in the country, following the $70-million-sale of a non-waterfront home by James Packer in 2015 next door.

Title records are yet to reveal the buyer’s identity, but sources have said the buyer hails from China.

The mansion, consolidated from three houses, includes seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, garage space for 20 cars, three kitchens, two internal lifts, a home cinema and a gym.

The 2400-square-metre property also boasts indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a separate function centre, and manicured gardens.

In 2016, Mr Landerer was offered $62 million for the property, but it didn’t exchange.
