Brace yourself for an extreme temperature surge this weekend

Australians have been warned to brace themselves for a surge in temperatures this weekend that will make some parts of the country feel as though they’re in the middle of summer.

The weekend Sydney temperature is forecast to hit the average for a December day, with the mercury set to soar to October averages in Brisbane and Adelaide.

Perth temperatures will feel like late September, with Melbourne, Hobart and Canberra also set to face unseasonably warm conditions over the weekend.

And while many people are probably enjoying the relief from the winter chill, meteorologists have warned that we’re set for one of our driest years on record.

Tom Saunders, Sky News Weather meteorologist told News.com.au, “At first glance, it’s quite surprising this winter has been so dry considering the usual suspects of El Nino or the Indian Ocean Dipole (climate drivers) are not present.

“Rather than the global drivers of weather variability, it has been local conditions which have caused the dry winter.”

What’s your take? Are you concerned about this erratic weather we’ve been having? Or do you appreciate the warm change from the winter chill?
