Before you buy a caravan, read this!

Choosing an RV to buy is a big decision so to ensure you don’t suffer from buyer’s remorse, here are a few questions you should consider when you shop around.

Is this RV suitable for my needs?

Firstly, you need to identify your lifestyle needs. What do you want your RV for?  Do you want minimual setup time? Perhaps a motorhome is the way to go then. Maybe you want a more comfortable home for long trips? Then a caravan is probably the best option. Do you like setting up camp and living in the great outdoors? Then a camper trailer is for you.

What kind of tow vehicle do I need?

Is your car capable of towing this caravan? Weight is an often overlooked but important factor. Find out what your car is capable of towing before you start looking around.

What features do I want?

Write a list of features you need, and another list of features you would want. Is the size, style and layout suitable for your needs?  This will make comparing options easier and mean you’re less likely to be swayed by a persuasive salesperson.

Do I want to add accessories in the future?

Right now, you’re just concentrating on getting an RV. But in a few years, you might want to add certain accessories like a fold-out annexe on a motorhome. It’s worthwhile to consider future plans when you’re buying now.

How reliable is your RV?

Whether you’re buying new or used, make sure you check these things: chassis, drawbar, hitch and the tyres.

Is there warranty?

What does the warranty cover and for how long? Read the fine print and don’t get caught out. When you are buying second-hand, do your research. Is it a reputable brand? Can you read any online reviews? What is the ownership history? Where has it been and where has it been kept?
