Five top Aussie spots for watching sunsets

We often pay no mind to the sun’s movements through the sky, but its daily rising and setting are stunning exceptions.

As for which is superior, it’s hard to say in terms of their beauty.

But, catching the sun as it rises means being awake at the (literal) crack of dawn, so watching the sun set is the obvious winner in this regard.

Plus, Australia offers up some amazing spots to see sunsets in all their glory and there’s bound to be one nearby wherever you are in the country.

Need convincing? Here are the five best sunsets from around the country to change your mind.

1. Cable Beach, WA

This top-notch beach in Broome offers amazing views of the sun setting all year round, with its wide country skies, flat reflective sand and iconic parades of camels along the horizon making it a spot that can’t be beat. Plus of course it’s on the west coast, so you get the luxury of seeing the sun sink below the water.

2. Mindil Beach, Darwin

Next time you’re in the NT, Mindil Beach should be at the top of your itinerary.

The stretch of sand is one of Darwin’s most famed beaches and even hosts weekly sunset markets which you can peruse before settling in to enjoy the views.

3. Corinna, Tas

Heading to the opposite side of the country, the Tasmanian town of Corinna (and any town along the west coast) is a prime spot for gorgeous pastel-filled skies around sunset.

Surrounded by some of the most dense temperate rainforest in the country, Corinna’s sunset views are best enjoyed by boat along the Pieman River.

4. Orange, NSW

Unlike other entries on this list, Orange doesn’t stun thanks to its beachy views. Located in central NSW, the skies here are orange and red as the sun sets among the distinctive Aussie countryside.

5. Lizard Island, QLD

A list of stunning Aussie sunsets wouldn’t be complete without Lizard Island, thanks to its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef, an abundance of palm trees, and its balmy atmosphere.
