My wife fell overboard

Over60 community member, John Rivett, shares his amusing story of how he finally got his wife to enjoy fishing with him… for about five minutes anyway.

I love my fishing; love the relaxation and ambience of the freshwater environment. My wife is not a fishing person at the best of times, however a few years back we were fishing the Edwards River in New South Wales and we were catching a few Murray cod and having ball. I am a catch-and-release fisho and I was instructing my wife on the technique of releasing a Murray cod at the river's edge. So here she was squatting and holding onto this fish for it to get its mojo back and she leaned forward and lost her balance, falling into the river headfirst after the fish she just released. There she was panicking and holding onto the edge while I could do nothing but laugh my head off. She was screaming and splashing about like a Titanic survivor and I was just in uncontrollable fits of laughter. Eventually our son-in-law ran from where he was fishing to pull her up the bank, while I kept my laughter going. Of course I was not a popular person for many weeks, but I got some great mileage out of the story with our friends.
