3 most important things to do before you travel

From flights to meals, accommodation and activities, planning a trip takes a lot of time and energy. But while it takes a lot of effort, it’s essential you get it right.

We’re going to take a look at the three most important things you have to organise, before embarking on your dream overseas trip. With a bit of planning you can be confident that you’ll enjoy your trip without a hiccup (and be covered, even if there is one).

1. Planning how you will access your money

Gone are the days where the best way to carry money overseas was by stashing travellers cheques and a handful of local currency in your bum bag. Today’s travellers need to think of smarter ways to access their money overseas.

The most flexible option is undoubtedly travel money cards. These clever cards allow you to access cash, securely and conveniently from ATMs.

2. Travel insurance

There are so many horror stories of people who’ve been caught out by being under-insured on holidays, you’d think buying it would simply be a formality. But there are still hundreds of travellers venturing overseas without the appropriate insurance.

Travel insurance covers an expense associated with medical needs, trip cancellations, lost luggage, flight accidents and any other losses that could happen while you’re travelling.

3. Making a copy of your important travel documents

There’s nothing worse than scrambling out of your hotel room, only to realise you’ve left your boarding pass behind in the rush to make check out time.

Making a copy of all your important travel documents is an effective way to cover you from theft, damage and misplacement. Carry them in a separate bag to the original documents. Also, be sure to make a copy of your itinerary and give it to your family members. This makes it easier for them to get in contact with you if something goes wrong.
