4 helpful tips for a staycation

1. Plan ahead

If you’re preparing for a short trip make sure everything is planned in advance so you make the most of your time there. Plan the sights to see, places to eat, hotel and travel.

Make a list and prioritise some things over others to ensure you’re taking advantage of what’s best to see, do and eat!

2. Pack light

A lot of people overpack, thinking of all the “what ifs” when it comes to the weather in particular. Although it’s always a great idea to be prepared, it’s better to travel with lighter luggage.

If you’re flying then you might save some money on checked-in luggage and since hotel checkouts tend to be early, you won’t have to lug a heavy bag around with you until you reach the airport.

3. Check out local events

Search online to see if there is anything happening in the area you’re travelling to, especially if it’s a big city. There are often night markets and big cities tend to have busy and exciting nightlife.

4. Try the local food

Plan the places you’d like to eat at in advance, but make sure you’re including local restaurants and cafes. Depending on the region or city they might have a staple dish. Check what’s in store and include it in your budget.

Trying local food, especially at a small business, will benefit your destination’s economy, and you might just find your new favourite dish!
