Weight conscious airline introduces diet meals for in-flight crew

The people in charge at Air India have reportedly switched their crews’ in-flight meals with lighter, low-fat options.

The airline made an announcement on Monday, revealing the new menu, which are mainly vegetarian, saying that the decision is more cost-effective compared to their previous meals.

But in the past, the airline has cracked down on the weight of their flight attendants.

At the moment, the meals are only available on routes originating in New Delhi and Mumbai, but they plan on rolling out low-fat options to other routes in the future.

“All the dishes in the food menu are low on cholesterol and fat. This initiative will help our crew to remain healthy and fit,” said an Air India official to The Times of India.

Crew members were informed of the changes through a company memo, which explained the “special low-fat diet meal” as a consideration for “the health factor” of the crew.

The news has come after Air India fired 10 flight attendants for being overweight.
