Hollywood star sings to her mother in hospital during cancer battle

Kate Beckinsale has shared an emotional video of herself singing to her mother, Judy Loe, as the 77-year-old remains in hospital while bravely battling stage four cancer.

The tender moment, posted to Instagram, shows the Underworld actress gently serenading her mum with the Everly Brothers’ 1958 song Bye, Bye Love, revealing the choice had a deeply personal meaning. “When my mum was 14, she was in a harmony group with her best friends Mary, Sylvia (known as Fuzzy to this day because of an unfortunate perm decades ago), and Chris,” Beckinsale wrote. “I am a very poor substitute not being a very good singer but I want my mum’s dearest and oldest friends in her hospital room with her.”

Beckinsale, 51, thanked her mother’s friends and signed off the post with love and humour, saying, “Love you all but most especially my mum. X and apologise to anybody in the hospital subject to my dreadful singing 🤍.”

While the cause of Loe’s current hospital stay is unclear, the actress and her mother have been enduring wave after wave of heartbreak. Earlier this year, the family lost Roy Battersby, Loe’s husband and Beckinsale’s stepfather, who passed away at 87. He was a renowned British television director and a guiding presence in their lives.

In a previous post, Beckinsale opened up about the compounding grief that’s taken a severe toll on her health. “I watched my stepfather die quite shockingly, my mother has stage 4 cancer, and I lost a lot of weight from stress and grief, quite quickly,” she wrote.

She went on to reveal that the emotional strain had physical consequences. “I was in hospital for six weeks because the grief had burned a hole in my oesophagus which made me vomit copious amounts of blood, and I found eating very hard.”

Support has poured in for Beckinsale online, with many followers sending kind messages. One wrote: “Bless you, darling Kate. I wish we could hold our mums’ hands and hearts forever and ever.”

As she continues to care for her mother through unimaginable pain, Beckinsale’s heartfelt video stands as a raw and powerful reminder of the depth of love and the quiet ways we try to ease each other’s suffering.

Images: Instagram

"I know what you've done": Doctor who first treated Erin Patterson speaks out

The doctor who first treated triple-murderer Erin Patterson after she arrived at hospital suffering symptoms from her own poisonous mushroom meal says he knew she was guilty from the beginning.

Dr Chris Webster was the first medical professional to speak with Patterson when she presented to Leongatha Hospital around 8am on July 31, 2023 – the day after the fatal beef Wellington lunch that killed three members of her extended family and left a fourth critically ill.

Patterson stayed just five minutes before self-discharging against medical advice, prompting Dr Webster to call emergency services. That triple zero call – along with dozens of other exhibits – has now been publicly released.

“This is Dr Chris Webster calling from Leongatha Hospital. I have a concern regarding a patient that presented here earlier but has left the building and is potentially exposed to a fatal toxin from mushroom poisoning,” Webster told the operator. “I've tried several times to get hold of her on her mobile phone.”

Dr Webster explained that Patterson left the hospital before a nurse could begin observations. “I had a brief chat with her about where the mushrooms were obtained and after that, while I was attending to the other patients, the nurse informed me she had discharged herself against medical advice,” he told the operator.

Speaking out for the first time, Dr Webster said something about Patterson's arrival set off alarm bells. “My heart skipped a beat,” he said. “I bypassed all of the usual triage protocols and just brought her straight in and sat her down and just looked her straight in the eye directly and said ‘the people at Dandenong suspect death cap mushroom poisoning, where did you get the mushrooms?’

“That’s when she said ‘Woolworths’. She was fairly impassive, wasn’t loud or hysterical, wasn’t crying. She just answered the question in a pretty matter-of-fact way.

“After that I was like: 'OK, I don’t want to talk to you anymore, I know what you’ve done'.”

At the time, Ian and Heather Wilkinson were also in hospital, gravely ill. But Patterson, he said, showed no sign of concern.

“She wasn’t shaking, Erin was sat in a chair, I don’t even remember her looking at Ian and Heather,” he said. “She’s evil. She wanted people out of her life and rather than using normal channels she snuffed out their lives and attempted to snuff out another.”

Dr Webster’s call to emergency services was the first step in a chain of events that would ultimately lead to Patterson’s arrest, trial, and conviction for three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

“When she didn’t respond in a way that would instantly explain it was a tragic accident, from that moment in my mind she was guilty. She was evil, and she was very smart to carry it all out but she didn’t cross the Ts and dot the Is,” he said.

Recalling the moment he saw Patterson again, this time in the courtroom, Webster said the atmosphere was unmistakable.

“When I looked at her, when I found the opportunity to sneak a peek, it was visceral, I felt the intensity, the hostility, the negativity, it was an intense gaze,” he said.

“She’s evil and she had a problem, she had a dilemma, and the solution that she chose is sociopathic.

“If you don’t like your in-laws there are other things you can do besides snuffing out a family.”

Images: Victoria Supreme Court / Nine News

Shock after true extent of Princess Kate's cancer battle revealed

Shocking new revelations have shed light on the true severity of Catherine, Princess of Wales’ private health battle, with reports now claiming the royal is “fortunate to even be speaking of recovery” following an intense and harrowing cancer fight throughout 2024.

In June last year, the princess appeared poised and radiant at Trooping the Colour – waving to crowds and smiling with trademark composure. But hidden beneath her Jenny Packham dress was a semi-permanent port embedded in her chest, a small but vital medical device delivering life-saving chemotherapy.

At the time, the extent of her illness remained entirely unknown to the public. Kensington Palace has never confirmed what type of cancer Kate was battling, nor offered a timeline beyond a brief video statement in March. But now, a deeply personal report by the Daily Mail’s royal editor Rebecca English has detailed just how critical her condition was – and the lengths the future queen went to maintain a sense of normalcy.

English writes that the princess had already been “seriously unwell” before undergoing major abdominal surgery in January. Post-operative testing revealed cancer, prompting immediate chemotherapy and the insertion of the port – a direct line for potent treatment into a vein near the heart. “It was a literal lifeline,” English reported, “which offers no cast-iron guarantee of success, even if you are a royal.”

Kate’s courage to appear publicly – even as she endured punishing side effects – was reportedly accompanied by deeply private suffering. Aides have since revealed she endured “months of hell” with multiple hospital visits conducted in secrecy, entering through side doors at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital.

The new information arrives in the wake of a last-minute cancellation at Royal Ascot earlier this month, where palace insiders reportedly reacted with alarm after the princess withdrew just 30 minutes before her expected arrival. Rumours briefly swirled that she required urgent medical attention, a sign that her recovery remains fragile.

Sources say the ordeal has prompted Kate to “recalibrate her entire life”, with royal duties to be dramatically scaled back for the rest of the year. She is still expected to attend Wimbledon and join the French state visit in July, but a broader return to public life appears uncertain. An overseas tour remains unlikely, and Prince William is expected to travel alone to Brazil in November for the Earthshot Prize.

As one palace insider put it, the recent upheaval is “a good reminder that she was really seriously ill last year and underwent a significant period of chemo… It can take years [to recover].”

While Kate is now said to be through treatment, the question of when – or if – she will return to a full royal workload remains unanswered.

As English wrote earlier this year: “The Princess of Wales has been to hell and back.” Now, it’s clear just how far she had to travel – and how much strength it took to return.

Images: Instagram

Harvard professor reveals the secret to a happily ever after marriage

After more than two decades of studying love, a Harvard professor has uncovered a heartwarming truth: the key to a long and happy relationship isn’t fiery passion or sweeping romance – it’s friendship.

Arthur Brooks, a renowned social scientist, shared his insights on The Drive podcast with Dr Peter Attia, revealing that the strongest marriages are those where partners are, above all else, best friends.

“The goal of your marriage is not passion, it’s friendship,” Prof Brooks explained. “You must be close friends, ideally best friends, with your spouse.”

According to Prof Brooks, friendship forms the foundation for lasting happiness. He spoke movingly about the joy of having a partner who is by your side through life’s journey. “One of the most important things for a happy life is a partnership with somebody who will be the last person you set eyes on as you take your last dying breath,” he said.

Far from worrying about fading passion, couples should take comfort in knowing that it’s normal – and even healthy – for relationships to mellow over time. “Low intimacy levels are healthy, normal, and actually advisable, as it’s more sustainable in the long run,” Prof Brooks noted.

He also encouraged couples to build shared interests and engage in deep conversations, so they stay connected even after the kids leave home. And while friendship within a marriage is vital, so too are friendships beyond it. Prof Brooks especially urged men to nurture their social circles, highlighting how important it is to have supportive friends throughout life’s ups and downs.

So, next time you’re looking for a way to strengthen your relationship, perhaps skip the grand romantic gestures – and plan a coffee date, a walk, or a good chat. Because at the end of the day, it’s friendship that makes love truly last.

Images: The Drive / Pexels, Vlada Karpovich

World's oldest practicing doctor shares his secrets to a long life

While most people slow down with age, Dr Howard Tucker has spent more than a century proving that passion and purpose are the best medicine.

At 102 years old, the American neurologist has lived a life so extraordinary it earned him a Guinness World Record as the oldest practicing doctor – an honour he received just before turning 99. Though he officially hung up his white coat at 100, Tucker remains as active and engaged as ever.

Today, he lectures future physicians at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and consults on medico-legal cases – work made possible by a law degree he earned at 67. His message? Retirement is not a requirement.

“Retirement, I think, is the enemy of longevity,” Dr Tucker recently told Al Roker on NBC’s Today. “You have to have some purpose in life and get up in the morning and know what you’re about.”

Even after the hospital where he worked shut its doors in 2022, ending his medical practice at 100, Tucker hasn’t ruled out returning to clinical work. “If it wasn’t for the closure, I’d absolutely still be seeing patients,” he told People. “Nobody wants me at my age – but I’ll keep trying.”

His enthusiasm for life has captured the public imagination, especially through What’s Next, a documentary about his life produced by his grandson. The film has gone viral on TikTok, turning the centenarian into an unexpected social media sensation.

Dr Tucker credits his longevity not just to good genes – his parents lived to 84 and 96 – but to lifestyle choices. “Heredity and family history of longevity is a healthy start,” he wrote in his Guinness World Record submission. “However, it must be supported by moderation of nutrition, alcohol and happiness.”

His daily routine reflects that philosophy. He snowshoes in the winter, walks on the treadmill for at least four kilometres a day, and eats a mostly clean diet – fruit and cereal in the morning, fish and vegetables at night. Lunch is often skipped to maintain mental clarity. Dessert, however, is a staple – typically fruit or ice-cream, enjoyed with his wife of over 70 years.

And while he rarely drinks, he allows himself the occasional martini. One thing he’s always avoided: cigarettes.

Dr Tucker also says its important to keep the brain stimulated. “If they retire from their work, they should at least do something as a hobby,” he told Today. “You need a stimulus for the brain daily.”

Science backs him up. Research shows that ongoing learning, social connection, and a sense of purpose contribute to mental acuity and longevity. Tucker’s life is a blueprint for all three. He remains close to his four children and 10 grandchildren and is an avid sports fan.

Despite a fall in his late 80s that ended his skiing days with a broken neck, Tucker hasn’t let injury slow him down. Instead, he’s adapted, always finding new ways to stay active.

With his 103rd birthday on the horizon in July, Dr Tucker says he isn’t concerned about the end. “I never think of death,” he said. “To be alive is to know that you’re going to die because life is a fatal disease. And so I live it.”

For a man who’s devoted his life to healing others, Dr Howard Tucker’s greatest lesson might be how to truly live.

Images: Instagram

Dr Charlie Teo's plea to have Aussie ban lifted

Famed neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo has formally asked the Medical Council of New South Wales to lift the restrictions that have effectively barred him from performing complex brain surgeries in Australia for the past two years.

In a letter submitted by his legal team, Dr Teo requested the removal of conditions requiring him to obtain written support from a Council-approved neurosurgeon before operating on patients with recurring malignant brain tumours or brain stem gliomas – some of the most challenging and high-risk cases in neurosurgery.

These conditions were imposed following a Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) inquiry that found Dr Teo had recommended surgeries in two cases where the risks were deemed to outweigh the potential benefits. The inquiry also criticised the consent process for being “too optimistic”.

Since the restrictions came into effect, Dr Teo has continued operating abroad, performing more than 230 surgeries in countries including China, Spain, Germany, India, Switzerland, Peru and South Africa. According to a submission provided to the Medical Board, of these 236 cases, 202 were classified as having "excellent" outcomes, 28 as "good", four as "fair", with two mortalities and none listed as "poor."

“I’ve done exactly what was asked of me in Australia, albeit abroad and not by choice but by necessity,” Dr Teo told news.com.au. “The supervising neurosurgeons have been extremely impressed with my results, and I guess I have even surprised myself.”

Dr Teo said he was proud of maintaining his high standards under intense scrutiny. “Now that I have been able to focus on the real enemy – brain cancer – and not be stressed by potential vilification and persecution is a Godsend.”

One of the many Australian patients who travelled overseas to receive treatment from Dr Teo is Tanya Miles, a mother of six who was diagnosed with recurrent glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. After undergoing surgery abroad, she said she is now optimistic about having more time with her children.

“I’m angry that I couldn’t make the same choice in my own country,” Ms Miles said. “But I’m so relieved I listened to my gut. Now I have the best possible chance of spending years, not weeks, with my children.”

Dr Teo said his push to have the restrictions lifted is not just about regaining the right to operate in Australia but about a broader principle of patient choice and access. “I may not necessarily get a job back here, which would be a real shame for Australian brain cancer and brain tumour patients,” he said. “But I am hopeful that one day some of my fellow neurosurgeons will put patient care above politics. Having the restrictions lifted may be the catalyst.”

Dr Teo remains active in brain cancer advocacy and fundraising and will appear at the Rebel Ball in Sydney on May 31, an event expected to draw many of his patients, including Ms Miles.

The Medical Council of NSW has not yet responded to Dr Teo’s request.

Image: News.com.au

Prince William’s heartbreaking call after Kate's cancer diagnosis

A former aide to the Prince of Wales has revealed that he was at his "lowest" after his wife Princess Kate was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago.

In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Jason Knauf, who was the chief executive of William and Kate’s Royal Foundation, revealed the phone call he shared with the Prince of Wales, after Kate's cancer diagnosis last year.

"It was awful, absolutely awful. It's the lowest I've ever seen him.

"Within a couple of weeks, if you're Prince William, you find out that both your wife and your father have cancer. I couldn't believe it."

Princess Kate is now in remission, while King Charles receives ongoing treatment.

The Princess of Wales' diagnosis was made public in March last year, with Knauf recalling: “But the problem was that all this crazy conspiracy theory stuff kicked off in the background, online. ‘Was she really ill?’.

“But they didn’t want to say yet that she had cancer because they hadn’t told the children and they were still working through how to tell the children.”

Knauf stepped down from his position at the end of 2021. He also previously worked for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as their communications secretary.

The Prince of Wales previously told reporters at the end of his visit to South Africa in November last year, that 2024 had been “the hardest year" of his life.

"Honestly? It's been dreadful. It's probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult," he told the BBC at the time.

“But I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been brutal.”

Image: 60 Minutes/ Instagram

Nova radio star speaks out on "shameful" paparazzi photos

Nova radio host Kate Ritchie has issued a public statement on Monday morning announcing that she will be taking a break from the Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie program to focus on her mental health.

The announcement comes days after the Daily Mail published invasive paparazzi photos that showed Ritchie appearing distressed while answering a phone call in a park.

In a statement released to Instagram, Ritchie slammed the paparazzi for their "relentless stalking".

“The images of me taken last week show that I wasn’t OK on that day. My struggle is not helped by the relentless stalking of the paparazzi, in fact they are making it much worse,” she wrote.

“Due to their constant harassment, they significantly add pressure and make my recovery that much more difficult.”

"To those profiting from invading my privacy, a simple question - would you treat your sister, mother or daughter the same, if they had similar challenges?” she continued.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Kate Ritchie (@kateritchieofficial)

She admitted that her mental health issues were “deeply personal” and had “proven to be a bigger challenge than I imagined".

Ritchie did not disclose how long her break from the show will be, but thanked listeners for their support.

The Daily Mail received backlash for their story about Ritchie with paparazzi photos and video showing her crying while on the phone.

The publication posted the video on to their social media, with many slamming the footage for intruding on her privacy.

“The Daily Mail’s video of Kate Ritchie is f**ked. You don’t post that,” one person wrote.

“What a horrible intrusion on her privacy when she is obviously going through a tough time. Have a heart and back off,” another commented.

“She is clearly going through something and struggling. Instead of calling authorities or asking her if she needed help or was OK, they recorded her. horrible,” another person wrote.

Images: Instagram

Prince William and Kate share poignant Christmas card

Prince William and Kate have released their annual Christmas card.

After a difficult year for the royal family, Prince William and Kate shared the poignant card to social media on Friday morning.

The royal couple shared a clip of the card sitting open on a table in front of a lit-up Christmas tree and surrounded by fake snow, with the message inside the card reading: "Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year."

The image used in the Christmas card was taken earlier this year from a video that marked the end of Kate's chemotherapy treatment. It shows Prince Louis, Prince William, Kate, Princess Charlotte and Prince George all sitting arm-in-arm together in Norfolk last summer.

The happy family are seen smiling broadly and the reason why they chose this photo was to highlight their family-first focus this year.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Prince and Princess of Wales (@princeandprincessofwales)

Prince and William and Kate have already posted out their Christmas card to family, friends and the couple's charities.

The release of the card comes after A Kensington Palace source told UK news outlets that the royal couple have skipped the Buckingham Palace Christmas luncheon for the first time, as they had travel plans and it was not a last-minute change.

The royal couple are reportedly already in their Norfolk home with their three kids and are said to be looking forward to celebrating Christmas Day with their family in Sandringham.

Image: Instagram/ Kensington Palace

Kate Ritchie unwraps hilarious Christmas secret about Bec Hewitt

In a festive bombshell that’s left the tinsel trembling, popular radio talkback host Kate Ritchie dropped a yuletide nugget on her Fitzy & Wippa radio show that had her co-hosts laughing harder than Santa after one too many eggnogs.

The former Home and Away star couldn’t resist spilling the beans about a certain co-star’s unconventional approach to Christmas decor. Spoiler: It’s as timeless as the love between Alf Stewart and his flaming galah.

The revelation came during a lively discussion about Christmas traditions. As the trio playfully debated who might blast carols all year long, Wippa quipped, “Yeah, they’re the ones who leave the tree up all year because they’re lazy.” Cue Kate’s awkward laugh – and the kind of body language that screams, I know something you don’t.

After much coaxing, Kate finally confessed: “I know someone who does that.” Her vague hints about the mystery person – “They’re not there a lot” and “They usually come home in summer” – only deepened the intrigue. Naturally, Fitzy and Wippa sprang into action, throwing out wild guesses faster than kids ripping open presents on Christmas morning.

“Chris Martin?” No.

“A Hemsworth?” Still no.

“Ray Meagher?” Are you serious?

Finally, under relentless pressure, Kate dropped the mic (or rather, the ornament): “I think Bec Hewitt did it a little bit.”

And there it was! The Christmas tree tea that would leave even Rudolph red in the face.

Turns out, Bec Hewitt – a former Home and Away actress herself and better half of tennis champ Lleyton – is no stranger to embracing an evergreen lifestyle. Back in 2016, she openly admitted in an interview that her family’s Christmas tree had been up for (wait for it)... eight years.

“I don’t know if this is a little bit sad but our Christmas tree has been up for eight years!” Bec confessed. The reason? An international jet-setting schedule that makes Santa’s one-night global trek look like a leisurely stroll. “We’ve been living overseas, and we fly in to Australia quite late. Because we fly in and it’s nearly Christmas time, and then we have to leave for the Australian Open in a hurry, so we just don’t get round to it; I’m busy packing.”

And who could blame her? Between juggling family life, Lleyton’s tennis coaching career, and perhaps a few rounds of “Where’s the mistletoe?”, the Hewitts were clearly just giving their tree a permanent residency.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Nova (@fitzywippakate)

So next time you’re dragging your feet about packing up the decorations, just remember: somewhere out there, Bec Hewitt’s Christmas tree is standing proud, a symbol of festive procrastination and boundless holiday cheer.

After all, why limit Christmas to one month when you can keep the magic alive all year round?

Images: Instagram

Teen photographer who shared special moment with Kate Middleton dies

Liz Hatton, a teenager who inspired Kate Middleton while pursuing her photography bucket list, has sadly passed away following her battle with a rare form of cancer.

The 17-year-old made headlines around the world when she was photographed embracing the Princess of Wales during a private meeting inside Windsor Castle in early October.

Liz's mother, Vicky Robayna, confirmed that the teenager had passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Robanya wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that Liz had "remained determined to the last" and was still making plans for her future on Tuesday.

"We are so very proud of the kindness, empathy and courage she has shown in the last year," she wrote.

Liz began pursuing her photography bucket list in January after being diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumour, a rare and aggressive form of cancer and given between six months and three years to live by doctors.

She had dropped her formal studies in favour of following her dream of photography, and in October, she was invited by the Prince of Wales to take photos at an investiture.

The teenager also had a 30-minute personal chat with the royal couple, and her photos at Windsor Castle were later published by Kensington Palace.

In a personal message, the Prince and Princess of Wales described Liz as a "talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both".

Liz's mother also wrote that not only was she "a phenomenal photographer, she was the best human and the most wonderful daughter and big sister we could ever have asked for".

"No-one could have fought harder for life than she did," she said.

"There is a gaping Liz-shaped hole in our lives that I am not sure how we will ever fill."

She also thanked everyone who helped the teenager fulfil her dreams in her final months, and for those who supported her work.

"You ensured Liz's last two months were her very best. She flew high until the end."

There is currently no standard treatment for the type of cancer Liz had, and no charity specialising in the disease in the UK.

Roboyna said that there were "two last favours to ask", and they included sharing one of Liz's photos in tribute and "help us with a mission to raise money to fund research into Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour".

"Whether you can share, donate or raise funds – please be our village one more time," her mother said.

"Let's make this the last item on her bucket list and make sure other families don't face a similar fate."

Image: Kensington Palace/ X

"Alive and well": Fans confused over Dr Harry Cooper death announcement

Dr Harry Cooper and Channel Seven have been forced to clarify that the famous TV vet is alive and kicking after his Wikipedia page stated he had died.

According to Cooper's Wiki page, the TV personality died at the age of 80 on November 16th 2024.

However, Ben Fordham and his 2GB team have confirmed that this is not the case.

"[Dr. Harry] has had a bit of a shock this week, courtesy of something that appeared online," explained Fordham on his popular radio show.

"This week we were contacted by a listener, they alerted us to the fact that according to Google and Wikipedia, Dr. Harry Cooper was no longer with us!"

Fordham explained that he had done his own investigations of the claims and observed the Wikipedia page in question, which read that "Dr. Harry Cooper OAM, more commonly known as Dr. Harry, an Australian vet and TV personality best known for his media appearances, born February 20, 1943, died November 16, 2024."

The unofficial death notice prompted several listeners to reach out to the team at 2GB, asking if they'd heard any news about Dr. Harry's alleged death.

"A fan of Dr. Harry Cooper got in touch w us a couple of days ago and said, 'Did you know that Dr. Harry had died?," shared Fordham.

"And we all looked at each other and said, 'No?'

"And then we got another message, 'Can you confirm that Dr. Harry has passed away?' Again, we were looking online, and he was in New Idea at the start of the year celebrating his 80th birthday."

"And the most recent story about Dr. Harry was from September, when he visited a camel farm."

In order to confirm once and for all, Fordham reached out to the Seven Network, who provided a statement revealing the good news that, "Harry is alive and well."

"After tipping off Seven, the reference to his death has been removed from Wikipedia," Fordham added. "So, its another reminder – you can't believe everything you read."

Nova radio star breaks down in heartwarming interview with Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet shared a heartwarming moment live on-air with Kate Ritchie on Nova radio on Wednesday morning.

The Hollywood star appeared on Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie to promote her new movie, Lee, where Ritchie brought up the star's powerful comments about the scrutiny women in the public eye face.

“I have to say to, I just want to thank you for the conversations that you have about body image," Ritchie said.

“What we do have in common is that we somewhat grew up in the public eye; I grew up on a television show," the former Home and Away actress added.

She then praised Winslet for continually speaking out about “women and young girls, growing up and having people comment about us and pass judgement and feel as though its OK to say certain things. I think we’ve always known that it's not OK."

“But it’s been really hard conversation to have and it’s hard to sometimes stand up and say ‘This does not make me feel good’ and ‘it’s not OK for someone to speak that way’, and someone of your calibre, I hope you know the value of you having these conversations. Because it makes me, and I’m sure millions of other women …” she said while tearing up.

“Oh she’s unravelling in here!” Winslet said in attempt to lighten the mood, as she shared a smile in agreement.

“That’s really very kind,” said Winslet. “I think women are getting better at standing up for each other as well as standing up for ourselves.”

Winslet has been very vocal about women standing up for themselves and has led by example, revealing in another interview that she was forced to defend herself to a crew member while filming the movie.

“There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini and one of the crew came up between takes and said: ‘You might want to sit up straighter.’ So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate, you know?” she told Harper's Bazaar UK.

Images: Nova
